My husband from before meeting me, had the dream of owning and driving a 1965-1970 Ford Mustang. While living in The Netherlands he purchased an engine from a private seller in the area of north eastern Netherlands. He drove a family friends van out to the farm country and the seller loaded the engine into the van with his tractor. This 5.0ho engine came from a 1993 Ford Thunderbird. He started to restore the engine. This entailed having a local shop bore the cylinders larger and polish the crank shaft among some other small details. Then he installed new pistons, painted the engine components and much more. Lots of time and work went into restoring the engine. From what he told me and from what I saw it was a whole lot of cleaning parts. This was happening before and while we were dating and he even had me ship parts to him. This was caused by the post office being closed due to a holiday right when he was leaving and he couldn't get it shipped in time. When his move to America came time he used a freight company to pick up his tightly package personal effects with the engine and ship as cargo to deliver to my parents house. It was stored in their garage for some time. He designed and made an engine stand with the help of his dad prior to the move to help it be a little safer and easy to move in shipment and storage. Everything came over okay and has went from one storage area to the next. Right now it sits still on that engine stand in our shop waiting to be tested and installed.
So that is the story of the engine, next we purchased the Mustang body. My husband spent years looking for a good mustang that he liked and almost bought two before the one we have now but they always sold quickly before we could get them. However soon after in March 21, 2021 from a private seller in Wichita Falls, TX we purchased the current 1970 Ford Mustang. This vehicle came with interior intact and with minimal surface rust but no engine. Luckily we have the engine he has worked on so meticulously. We have only 2 spaces in our shop for vehicles so we had to make room for the car. We have an alcove in the corner next to the vehicle spaces that we could fit the mustang but had to buy car dolly's to place the tires on so we could push it sideways into the spot. At first it was sitting in the yard with an old cover and the concern of mice was too great to leave it in the yard. It has made our shop a lot smaller due to the space it takes up so inevitably things have been placed all around it blocking it in and making it hard to see. Recently the other projects came to an end and we have cleaned out the shop freeing the mustang to be viewed and sat in. We are slowing but surely working to finish the mustang to place the engine in and drive.
